Drink Your Veggies!

After watching Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead yesterday, juicing today was pretty much a given. That, and today is the day we receive our amazing box of locally grown organic fruit and veggies from Mother Earth Produce. As soon as the box arrived, we got ready to juice.

Today’s juice included what you see here and more! Some of the greens were already in the juicer when I grabbed my camera. Oops.Juicing Apples and OrangesFrodo likes to hang around when we juice. Sometimes carrots magically fall to the floor when he is at our feet. He doesn’t mind.Frodo and CarrotsIt takes an adventurous spirit to drink something that looks like this, but we saw what went into this muddy looking stuff, so we know it will be all right.Drink UpOh, so this picture doesn’t confuse anyone, you need a machine dedicated to juicing fruit and vegetables (the Blendtec isn’t for that purpose). We just throw the juice in the blender after juicing to give it a quick whirl, and we store the remaining half in the fridge making use of the handy dandy Blendtec pitcher.

Today’s juice was heavier on the fruit than normal, but it was one of the best we’ve had in a long time. Usually it’s heavier on the greens (kale, spinach, or whatever leafy greens we have around) and lighter on the fruit, but then it takes me longer to drink. Of course, that’s when it’s the most nutritious. This was probably too high in sugar content, but hey, sometimes you can party – even with veggie juice!

In case you’re wondering, this is what’s in that pitcher:

  • a bunch of kale
  • 3 leaves of rainbow chard
  • lettuce
  • carrots
  • celery
  • 3 apples
  • 2 oranges
  • 2 pears
  • 1 lemon
  • ginger

What about you? Any plans to juice today?
